Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about McKenzie Manor – Mangatawhiri’s boutique dog boarding service.
Bookings
How do I enquire about a stay at McKenzie Manor?
You can contact us online via our enquiry form, message us through social media or reach out via email. We recommend booking early, especially during peak periods, for the best chance to secure a spot for your dog.
Is there a minimum stay?
No, although we do not open on Saturdays for pick up/drop off so this may impact your booking needs. For all first time stays over 7 days, we may require a trial stay ahead of time to ensure your dog settles comfortably and enjoys the full boutique boarding experience.
Do you offer priority or emergency bookings?
Returning clients benefit from priority bookings during peak periods and reserved emergency spaces, giving peace of mind when life throws unexpected plans your way. We do however welcome first time enquiries and will do our best to assist where possible.
Health & Safety
How do you manage dogs with special dietary or medical needs?
It is our preference that your dog holidays with their diet from home, meaning we are well equipped in handling a variety of dietary requirements. Our team is experienced in administering medications, managing special diets, and providing personalised care.
What supervision do dogs receive?
Dogs are under continuous supervision from our dedicated, on-site team. We are with them all day, every day. We also have video / audio monitoring in the indoor sleeping area.
Drop-Off / Pick-Up
What are your drop-off and pick-up times?
To best support all guests, whether they are arriving for their first time, bounding back for another holiday, getting ready to go home or staying on we kindly request all pick up and drop offs are between our dedicated hours:
Monday – Friday Morning 8:30am – 10:30am
Afternoon: 3:30pm – 6:00pm
Saturday – No pick ups or drop offs
Sundays and public holidays: Afternoon only – 3:30pm -6:00pm
Can we visit before booking?
Absolutely. We welcome prospective clients to visit, meet our team, and see our rural property to ensure it’s the right fit for your dog. Given the nature of our small team and the prioritised care of the dogs staying with us we require all visits to be scheduled in advance and unfortunately cannot accommodate a drop in service.
We encourage you to bring your dog to these visits so they have the opportunity to meet the team and explore our environment with the comfort of their family by their side.
Dog Temperament & Behaviour
My dog is shy or anxious. Will they be okay?
Yes. We specialise in caring for sensitive dogs. Low guest numbers, personalised routines, and calm handling help all dogs settle comfortably. If your dog experiences anything you are concerned about – simply let us know.
Do you accept entire dogs/bitches?
Yes. Although unfortunately we cannot accommodate a bitch in season and will require immediate collection in the case of coming into season during their stay.
Can dogs with behavioural challenges stay?
Each dog is assessed individually. Dogs requiring extra support or 1:1 care can still enjoy our facility, with routines adapted to suit their needs.
Will my dog be socialised with other dogs?
Socialisation is carefully managed. Dogs are grouped based on personality and comfort, with options for solo care when needed.
We advocate for small groups of dogs, where pairing is appropriate, in order to support the overall well being of each dog. The dogs staying with us are often not going home at the end of the day, so a balanced approach to socialisation while still ensuring each pup gets time to be loved individually is best to support their mental and emotional wellbeing for extended periods away from home.
